Relationships

Will the baby come between us, change our relationship, will we have time to ourselves?

Despite feeling excited about the arrival of your child, it is quite normal for you and your partner to be wondering about the impact of the baby on your relationship.

Couples who are prepared for parenthood and have realistic expectations adjust better to changes. Babies do cry, throw up, dirty their nappies, cost money, make demands on time, disturb sleep, create more work and limit your freedom.

During this time it is even more important to actively work at your relationship, take time to communicate and share your thoughts and emotions on issues such as:

  • Child care, housework, religion and discipline styles
  • Sleeping arrangements
  • Infant care
  • Work
  • Finances

Do share your dreams and your plans for the future as well as your concerns or fears. You need to work in partnership to get the most out of this time.
