Thank you for changing my life

After 13 months and only having my son sleep 1 6 hour sleep in this time was getting to the point of me fainting, having 2 older children I was tired but continued on. My visit to Canterbury changed our family back to functioning normal. Our son now goes to bed day and night without a fuss, and I sometimes hear him during the nights, but I don't get up as he self settles. You all deserve special thanks as it was a home away from home. Happy Mum :)

I would like to send my sincere thanks to the staff at Canterbury for their care and advice during our recent 4 night stay, particularly to Suzie, Cathy, Michelle and the other nurses who looked after my daughter Eloise and I.

We cannot praise your professional and supportive services enough. Your help with our settling & feeding issues has made such a difference to our family.

Life Changing

My 6 month old son and i recently stayed at the residential unit at Canterbury. Jack was diagnosed with moderate reflux and colic at 4 weeks of age. After this is was a rollercoaster ride trying to get him on the right medication doses and also altering my diet to a dairy and soy free diet so that i could continue breast feeding. I was living from one day to the next doing anything i could to survive...introducing dummies, patting him on his side in the cot, walking him in the pram etc etc. It got to the point though that i couldnt cope with the resettles in the night anymore and Jack was waking every 2.5 hours screaming his lungs out. I would try and rock him in my arms for up to 45 minutes at times and then end up feeding him. It was so depressing and was taking a toll on me and my marriage as well. Its been a few weeks since our stay at Tresilian... it hasnt all been smooth sailing and I have jumped on the phone to speak to the nurses a few times since i have been home but one thing that has changed is Jack now sleeps through the night (with a dream feed at 11) and is able to settle himself to sleep. I feel like a new woman and finally i am able to enjoy being a 'mum'. Jack is a new boy and i am a new mummy :) I also found chatting to the other mothers a real help to and it was nice to share stories with other parents who also had reflux babies and how they have coped. Tresilian has changed my life.

My 9 month old son and I went off to Cantabry about 3 weeks ago now. Allthough I knew I needed help with him I was very embarresed to ask for it as he is my number 3 and is one of 5. I was also very nervous as I am a stay at home mum and because of this havnt really had anyone else lookafter him at all. I was made feel at ease as soon as I walked in the door at Cantebry by the wonderful nurses. Im not sure whether it was the change of routine, the firmness in settling him to sleep or the fact that we had some 1 on 1 time away from the rest of the family but he is now sleeping through the night! The nurses were fantastic even in the middle of the night when i was half awake and stressing out as he just wouldnt settle they were calm and confident and helped me through. I also feel i should mention the chef who went out of his way to make sure he had the menu and the portion sizes right for my son, at one stage tracking me down in the play room to ask me a question. In all I just wanted to say thank you and recogonise the fantastic job they do and reassure any parent who is unsure of weather it is something they want to persue

A very huge thank you to the wonderful staff at Tresillian. I have phoned there a few times now for some advice and have nothing but AMAZING support! On both occasions I have been on the phone for almost half an hour with the lovely ladies encouraging and praising me. This has given me a huge relief that I am doing it right. The advice has been awesome and has worked. Cannot thank you enough!

I stayed at Tresillian in Willougbhy with our 13 month old baby. Our little man used to being rocked & patted to sleep, he would wake as soon as we put him down. He also would wake up screaming the house down between sleep cycles (every 2hrs)& could be up with for upto 2 -3 hrs before he'd go to sleep again, some nights we could be up to him 10-12 times a night.
After 4 nights at Tresillian the situation has turned around,& we now have a baby who is well on the way to self settling, going to sleep in his cot, takes long naps without stirring, and now wakes one or two times overnight due to loosing his dummy, before going straight back to sleep til morning. Before Tresillian I couldn't cope any more with the lack of sleep & dealing with a 4 1/2 yr old as well, a few weeks later I feel like that is just a distant memory & can actually function & get out the door to work. The nurses at Tresillian were lovely, extremely supportive, and never once judged us only modelled what we could try. They provided practical and emotional support, as well as lots of parenting information for the coming months. I cannot praise Tresillian highly enough.

After staying in Canterbury Residential with my 8 month old baby girl with sleep issues, we all now experience 'sleeping through the night' - a first since her birth.
A big thank you to the staff at Canterbury, their advice and support to iron out a few little habits really helped.
Baby girl no longer requires the dummy to fall asleep, nor does she need many a feed!
I definitely recommend the stay should you feel it's time to change the home routine for the better!

Hotline saved my sanity

I just wanted to take a moment to thank the wonderful woman I spoke to when my baby was 5 days old and I was suffering extreme anxiety after no sleep She really put things in perspective for me, allowing me to see things from my daughter's side and not based on the expectations I had of her. She normslised my feelings which was incredibly valuable as I felt like I was going insane, and gave me some great tactics to grab more sleep when I can. We are still in the early stages but already things are improving after changing expectations and implementing techniques. We will definitely be in contact with tresillian if there is ever anything else that we are struggling with. Thank you so much!!!

After months of getting up between 4 and 7 times a night to comfort/feed/settle our 7 month old I phoned the Tresillian Parent's Help Line on 24th July. Since talking to the very helpful nurse, who gave great information on the phone and directed me to your fact sheet on settling, our nights have improved remarkably. I now only get woken once a night and last night got my first 7 stretch of sleep since February! THANK YOU for your wonderful service.
